Chicago produced documentary Fish out of Water is making its much anticipated debut onto DVD! Hosted by the hilarious comedienne Cameron Esposito, this DVD Release party presented by Yellow Wing Productions will feature all local talent, including soul-funk Chicago favorite JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound and special guest rapper Rita J, Lady Tajma Hall of Hydrate fame, and DJs Butch Cassidy of Chances Dances and Erik Roldan of Think Pink Radio. Sneak peaks of the film will be shown DVD copies and merchandise will be for sale. The film, which dissects the seven Bible verses used to condemn homosexuality and justify marriage discrimination, has enjoyed a successful run in the festival circuit, taking the Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at Reeling: The Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival, and Runner Up for Audience Award at the Tallgrass Film Festival.
Interweaving whimsical animation with enlightening interviews from both within the lesbian and gay community and as well with conservative and progressive theologians from across the country, Chicago Director Ky Dickens' Fish Out Of Water breaks down key passages from the Old and New Testaments - from Adam and Eve to Sodom and Gomorrah and the Purity Codes - while confronting issues of translation and historical context that affect today's interpretations of the Bible. Golden Globe nominated composer Kaki King (Into the Wild) delivers an original score that flows effortlessly through the film’s diverse elements. Fish Out of Water is essential viewing for anyone who wants - or needs - a deeper understanding of this contentious issue, or who is engaged in our national dialogue about faith, homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
